2012 DBCAA Annual Meeting Report

World Dairy Expo, Madison, WI

I.   The Annual Meeting of the DBCAA was called to order by President Cory Upson at 1:00 p.m., and business proceeded according to the previously published agenda.  Attendees introduced themselves: Ellen Bohn (Wisconsin), Peter & Christina Winch(Wisconsin), Jim Versweyveld (Wisconsin), Kristine Haag (Illinois), Angie Eggenberger (Illinois), Winifred Hoffman (Illinois), and Cory Upson (New York).

II. The Treasurer’s Report was reviewed by Cory Upson, to be discussed in more detail during New Business. Peter Winch moved to accept the report, Kristine Haag seconded and the motion passed unanimously.  The Registrar’s Report was distributed and reviewed by Jim Versweyveld.  Ellen Bohn moved to approve the report, Christina Winch seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.  The Executive Committee report was presented by Ellen Bohn.  Jim Versweyveld moved to approve the report, Winifred Hoffman seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.  The Bulletin Editor’s Report was submitted by Winifred Hoffman.  Kristine Haag moved to approve the report, Peter Winch seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.  The Classification Report was presented by Jim Versweyveld.  Upcoming 2013 Classification Schedule will be printed in the Bulletin.  Peter Winch moved to approve the report, Ellen Bohn seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.  [Copies of the complete reports are available from the Secretary upon request.

III. Breed Promotion:
A. The Dutch Belted show at the New York State Fair was discussed by Cory Upson.  The 3rd annual show had approximately 20 animals exhibited by 3 exhibitors.  Next year’s show will be expanded to include other minor dairy breeds.
B. The group discussed the importance of continued efforts to show at local fairs.  Christina Winch urged breeders to “get out to the fairs” as a key component of our breed promotion.
C. Cory Upson discussed the New York Breeder’s Picnic.  Cory will work with Dale Covert on plans for a 2013 picnic.
D. Webmaster, Angie Egenberger discussed the breed website.  Her efforts were applauded by the group as this continues to be a strong promotional opportunity for the breed.  As with the Bulletin, photo submissions from breeders are appreciated.

IV. New Business
A. Cory Upson read a letter to the group from the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC) regarding the financial state of the association.  Discussion followed, reviewing  various ideas to best handle the situation, with the long term interests of the association in mind.  Follow-ups were assigned to the Executive Committee.
B. A motion was made to simplify Bulletin/membership renewals by moving subscriptions to an annual basis.  Editor, Winifred Hoffman will describe the transition to members in an upcoming issue of the Bulletin.
C. A motion was made to adjust rates for foreign subscriptions to cover association postage costs.  Rates will be researched by Winifred Hoffman and adjusted accordingly.

V. Nominations for Officers:  The floor was opened for nominations for DBCAA Board of Directors with a mail ballot planned for December.  New directors will take office in January 2013 and serve three-year terms.  Ellen Bohn nominated Cory Upson for President, Peter Winch seconded.  No other nominations for President were made.  Cory Upson nominated Ellen Bohn for Vice-President, Jim Versweyveld seconded.  No other nominations were made for Vice-President.  Jim Versweyveld nominated Kristine Haag for Secretary, Cory Upson seconded. There were no other nominations for Secretary.  Ellen Bohn moved that the nominations be closed, Winifred Hoffman seconded.  Mail ballots will be sent to current lifetime members.

VI. Next Meeting.  The 2013 DBCAA will be held again at World Dairy Expo with time and location to be announced in the March Bulletin.


At 3:00 p.m., Winifred Hoffman moved to adjourn the meeting, Ellen Bohn seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
